An update from Kate Sida-Nicholls, Lead Advocate for Chartered College of Teaching, Suffolk and Norfolk SCITT

The Chartered College of Teaching held its second annual conference on Saturday 17th February in London. Dame Alison Peacock started the day off by stating we need, more than ever, to get hold of the idea that we are professionals, to speak of our profession with pride, to change the narrative.’ An emotive but accurate start to a day full of ideas and passion.

Speakers for the day were Daisy Christodoulou, Director of Education, No More Marking with the title of her talk Building a better assessment system; how can comparative judgement help?’ (If you are interested in looking at assessment in a different way then you might want to read her book, Making Good Progress? The future of Assessment for Learning).

There were inspirational speakers such as Abed Ahmed, Maths Teacher who has a stammer but shared his story about helping young stammerers to become more confident (@stammer_teacher) to Dr Maggie Aderin-Peacock who is a Space Scientist and shared some amazing facts and offered suggestions about how to address the gender imbalance in STEM.

The themes and contributions of the conference were summed up in these graphics drawn by @mendoncapen
