John is Deputy Headteacher at Southfields Community Primary School, a large inner-city school with high levels of disadvantage, transience and EAL. He leads on Teaching & Learning and Curriculum, drawing on cognitive science and research to enhance practice.
With over a decade of experience, he is committed to improving pupils’ learning experiences through evidence-informed teaching.
With growing attention on oracy within curriculum and assessment, many schools are asking not just why it matters but how to implement it well. This session focuses on what makes change stick.
Grounded in the Education Endowment Foundation’s A School’s Guide to Implementation, it offers a clear, practical look at how to move from intention to sustained impact by focusing on the behaviours that underpin effective implementation.
This session explores the core implementation behaviours of Engage, Unite, Reflect, showing how schools can build genuine buy-in, align staff around a shared approach, and refine practice over time.
Drawing on work from Staffordshire Research School and the experience of implementation of Oracy at Southfields Primary, John Marsh will illustrate how a robust, whole-school oracy curriculum can be introduced and embedded across teaching and learning — avoiding initiative fatigue and ensuring oracy becomes part of everyday classroom practice.
This session is ideal for headteachers, senior leaders, English leads, oracy leads and curriculum leads who are looking to implement oracy in a meaningful, sustainable way across their school.
Please be aware if booking within 24 hours of the selected event date, there is no guarantee that your booking will be secured.
