Jez Baker is Deputy Headteacher at St Thomas Aquinas and has been part of the Senior Leadership Team since 2009. He is passionate about improving teaching, learning and the curriculum. He has a particular interest in how schools implement change effectively. Jez also works with schools across the wider Research School Network as a course facilitator.
Effective Implementation of Whole School Literacy
Improving whole-school literacy is a priority for many schools but implementing change effectively and sustainably can be challenging.
Participants will leave with:
•A clearer understanding of effective implementation in practice
•Insight into how schools have approached whole-school literacy improvements
•Practical reflections and strategies to support leaders implementing change in their own settings
This practical online twilight explores how schools can successfully implement whole-school literacy improvements, drawing on the EEF Implementation Guidance and focusing on the key implementation behaviours:
•Engage – building understanding and bringing colleagues with you
•Unite – aligning priorities and creating coherence across the school
•Reflect – reviewing progress and adapting implementation over time
The session will share how successful schools put improvement into action and why a careful, deliberate approach to implementation helps ensure changes are sustainable and embedded.
