Research has shown that disadvantaged students start to fall behind in science as early as Key Stage 1 and the gap only widens throughout primary and secondary phases. The EEF Guidance Report has reviewed the best available international research and has consulted with experts to identify key principles for effective secondary science teaching. It will focus on the strategies which are most likely to have a positive impact for students.

This programme will enable delegates to:

  • Understand the evidence base on effective science teaching
  • Explore effective strategies for science teaching, including self-regulation, memory, modelling, practical work, the language of science and feedback
  • Consider ideas and resources for use in the classroom and give you the opportunity to reflect on your own practice and identify areas for development

Aimed at:
Science teachers, heads of science and heads of science key stages in secondary schools

Led by:

Last time…

What was good was the presenters knowledge and enthusiasm for their areas of expertise. They also ensured that I was challenged to think about both my own current practice as well as that of the department that I lead. (Delegate, Spring 2022)

It worked well to talk about the different methods that can be taken back to the department to improve certain areas - breaking each of the strands into smaller chunks so they can be analysed in depth. (Delegate, Spring 2022)
