27 March, 2025
15:45 - 16:45

In this practical series of webinars based on her experiences in her own classroom, our Deputy Director, Rachael Wilson will talk through some of the trickier-to-nail evidence-based practices in Maths. Each webinar will run for approx. 1hr from 3:45pm till 4:45pm.

In the first session on Thurs March 20th we will explore the effective use of manipulatives, in particular looking at some of the barriers to their use, how to maximise their impact and how to harness whole school and classroom based approaches to support this even further.

In the second session on March 27th we will re-examine mathematical thinking, motivation, and metacognition, and the extent to which the implicit skill of reasoning needs to be made explicit. There will be practical suggestions for getting children to understand the different layers of thinking involved in solving mathematical problems, and a chance to reflect and plan for adopting this into our own classrooms.
