Rationale
A series of sessions aimed at sharing and
disseminating the very best of evidence informed
practice to schools across Sefton LA, helping leaders
and teachers to mobilise the research evidence that
is out there. The sessions will focus on ongoing
Education Endowment Foundation guidance report
training as well the teaching & learning toolkit,
professional development and evidence reviews.
When?
The sessions will take place through the autumn
term and there will be both a breakfast and twilight
session. Please note these will be the same session
with the aim of providing some flexibility of timings
for colleagues. You should not need to attend both
sessions. All sessions will take place remotely via
zoom. Once registered for a session you will be sent
the zoom link 24 hours prior to it.
Breakfast sessions will take place from 8am – 9am.
Twilight sessions will take place from 4pm – 5pm.
Who?
The sessions will be suitable for leaders and teachers
across all phases.
Cost
There is no charge for any of these sessions.
Teacher Feedback to improve Pupil Learning
An introduction to the latest EEF guidance report
Wednesday 6th October 8am – 9am
Thursday 7th October 4pm – 5pm
Released in June 2021 this guidance report looks at 6
key principles of good feedback rather than the most
effective method of delivery. It focuses on principles,
methods and implementation and can provide the
foundations for whole school or departmental
feedback.
The Teaching & Learning Toolkit
Wednesday 20th October – 8am – 9am
Thursday 21st October – 4pm – 5pm
On 17th September the EEF will launch significant
updates to the teaching & learning toolkit. This session
will take an overall look at the toolkit and how it can
support continued school improvement as well as the
significant updates and look in further detail at some of
the more interesting strands.
Reading
Wednesday 10th November – 8am – 9am
Thursday 11th November – 4pm – 5pm
This session will focus on the key evidence on reading
from the range of literacy guidance reports produced
by the EEF, evidencing the best bets for reading at the
transition from KS2 to KS3.
Improving Behaviour in Schools
Wednesday 24th November – 8am – 9am
Thursday 25th November – 4pm – 5pm
This session will focus on the core elements that
emerge from the Improving Behaviour in Schools
Guidance Report: Getting to know children, Learning
Behaviours, Whole school approaches and classroom
management.
Parental Engagement
Wednesday 8th December – 8am – 9am
Thursday 9th December – 4pm – 5pm
This guidance report gives important steps to help
schools and leaders with practical advice around
working with parents effectively. The session will
highlight the areas with the most evidence and where
this can inform current practice. It will also focus on
those things that are within the school’s ability to
impact.
