The Institute for Effective Education (IEE) is pleased to announce four projects chosen to receive the first Research Schools Network Innovation Evaluation Grants.
The Innovation Evaluation Grants are available to schools that are working closely with the Research Schools Network. They are awarded by the IEE to provide funding for pilot evaluations of innovations of teaching and learning approaches that support the Research Schools Network’s goal to improve the attainment of pupils by increasing the use of evidence-based practices.
Commenting on the projects chosen to be awarded Innovation Evaluation grants, Bette Chambers, Director of the IEE, said;
“In awarding these grants we were looking for approaches that teachers or schools have developed themselves or are adaptations of approaches that have been proven to work elsewhere and adapted to work with their particular pupils. The four projects that have been awarded the funding were successful because they address a specific challenge and use current research to develop innovations to solve them. These innovations will be evaluated using clear, measurable outcomes”.
The four projects that have been awarded an Innovation Evaluation Grant are:
Evaluating the impact of feedback using an audio tool compared to written feedback, led by Notre Dame High School, Sheffield.
Active banking – accelerated vocabulary enhancement, to be conducted by Bishop Challoner Catholic College, Birmingham.
Building resilience in learners,led by Sidmouth College, Devon
The effect of immediate (live) marking on pupil progress in Science,conducted by The Westwood Academy, Coventry.
Updates and evaluation reports will be made available on the Research Schools Network website as they are published.
The next call for applications for Innovation Evaluation Grants will be announced in March 2017.
