Based on the EEF guidance report and the most recent robust evidence, this online modular training programme will enable you to make confident decisions about how to implement strategies to improve pupils’ metacognitive skills to support them in becoming self-regulated learners.

Overview of programme:

What do we mean by cognition, metacognition and self-regulation?
How can we explicitly teach pupils metacognitive strategies?
How can we effectively model our own thinking in the classroom?
How can we set an appropriate level of challenge to develop pupils’ self-regulation and metacognition?
How can we promote and develop metacognitive talk?
How can we explicitly teach pupils to organise and effectively manage their learning independently?
Why is effective implementation so important in supporting teachers to develop knowledge of these approaches and what could it look like?
