Schools now spend approximately £4.4 billion each year on TAs, corresponding to 13% of the education budget. Expenditure on TAs is one of the most common uses of the Pupil Premium in primary schools. This presents an excellent opportunity for improvements in practice, with such a large and already committed resource in place. The recommendations from the EEF’s effective use of TAs guidance report recognise the fact that schools are operating within already tight budgets; however, noticeable improvements in pupil outcomes can be made through the thoughtful use of existing resources, without significant additional expenditure.
This one-day workshop draws upon the recommendations from the EEF’s making best use of TAs guidance report, and aims to:
• Enable schools to review and reform the deployment and preparation of teaching
assistants, based on the most recent research evidence
• Support schools in the opportunity to re-think/consider and address securing the best
value from Teaching Assistants helping make sure they can make a meaningful contribution
to teaching and learning
