Mary works for the Education Policy Institute (EPI). She has co-authored Education in England: Annual Report 2020 , which includes analysis of the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. In the webinar, Mary will talk through the key findings of this report using infographics, and then be available to answer any questions.

Logan works out of the University of Georgia, USA, as a researcher in the field of cognitive science for student learning and its implications for instruction.
Logan will be talking about the science of habits, having co-authored a paper entitled The Science of Habit and its implication for student learning and well-being, and then be available for a Q&A session.
He has also co-authored a book on Learning as a Generative activity, which has since been re-imagined from the practitioner angle by Mark and Zoe Enser in their recent publication of ‘Fiorella and Mayer’s Generative Learning in action’.
Marc is an expert in the field of disadvantaged and vulnerable learners, having worked with hundreds of school and local authorities to support better outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
He is the author of two books: The Practical Guide to the Pupil Premium, and Learning Without Labels: Improving Outcomes for Vulnerable Pupils.
Marc will be considering the evidence of self-regulation and metacognition, and how this can be harnessed in the classroom to support our disadvantaged pupils.
Mike is a teacher in a secondary school and a researcher at UCL, with a particular interest in the types of cognitive control required for educational success. He works with schools and runs experiments to try to determine what the development of the adolescent brain means for the pupil trying to attend and learn. He has co-authored a paper on Attention, mind wandering and mood and also on the concept that Habit formation limits growth in teacher effectiveness.
Mike will be talking about pupil attention in the classroom and the reality of the difficulties in getting it, before taking part in a Q&A session to consider strategies to combat this problem.
