RISE Universal Offer: Yorkshire and Humber

White ‘working class’ boys

Overview

Improving the educational outcomes of white working-class’ boys remains a national priority and a significant regional focus across Yorkshire and the Humber. In this context, we are referring to disadvantaged pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding as a proxy.

As part of the RISE Universal Offer, Great Heights and Bradford Research Schools have been commissioned to produce a series of outputs to support schools across the region.

We are currently developing a small set of case studies that explore how schools have implemented approaches to support white working-class boys. The aim is to help other schools learn from real examples of implementation, including the decisions made, challenges encountered, and adaptations along the way.

What are we looking for?

We are keen to hear from:

*Schools where academic outcomes for this group are positive and/or showing an improving trajectory; and/or

*Schools having a positive impact on broader outcomes as part of their inclusive approach, for example reductions in behaviour incidents, improved attendance, or other qualitative measures.

*Alternatively, case studies may focus on a specific subject, department, or faculty.

We recognise that schools may not be doing anything additional or different specifically for this group, and that these pupils may be benefiting from effective whole-school strategies.

What will be involved?

We have developed a simple template with a small number of prompts to support reflection. We are particularly interested in honest accounts of what you tried, what worked well, and what was more challenging than expected.

To minimise the burden on schools, we are happy to:

*help shape or edit a draft you provide, or

*arrange a short conversation and write the case study on your behalf.

We would really value your insight and experience, and we will do our best to ensure the process is straightforward and supportive.
