: FREE Online PD Event – Be More Ted? Implementing Change in a School Context

What can schools learn from Ted Lasso about implementing change? Exploring how curiosity, collaboration and sustained professional development can help turn evidence into lasting improvements in practice.

On 11 November 2026 (4 – 5pm), Ben Cadigan, ELE and Lead Mentor at Buckinghamshire Partnership SCITT, will lead a session for Essex Research School exploring the realities of implementing change in schools. Drawing on his recent EEF blog, Be More Ted? Implementing Change in a School Context, Ben will examine why even well-intentioned initiatives can struggle to gain traction and what school leaders can do to create the conditions for meaningful, lasting change. Using insights from the EEF’s Effective Implementation guidance, alongside examples from teacher development and instructional coaching, the session will explore how schools can move beyond one-off training events to create professional development that genuinely changes practice. Participants will consider the importance of building motivation, engaging colleagues, developing expertise over time and embedding new approaches into everyday classroom practice. The session will also reflect on how leaders can foster a culture of curiosity rather than judgement when introducing change. This session will offer valuable insights for school leaders, implementation leads, professional development leads and anyone responsible for leading improvement within their setting. This session is ideal for Headteachers, Senior Leaders, Implementation Leads, Professional Development Leads and Trust Leaders.
