ELE and West Essex SCITT Director & School Improvement Lead, EFSPT (Quality Associate, DfE)
Susan is an experienced school leader with a strong background in evidence-informed practice and school improvement. With over a decade of leadership experience, she has held roles as Deputy Headteacher, Teaching School Director, and SCITT Director, alongside her work as a School Improvement Lead and Quality Associate for the DfE.
Passionate about professional learning and system leadership, Susan has led whole-school improvement projects at both trust and national level. She played a key role in establishing and leading a successful Teaching School and SCITT, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based training for early career teachers. As an NPQ and ECT facilitator, she has worked extensively with the Education Endowment Foundation, the Chartered College of Teaching, and the Education Development Trust to develop and deliver impactful professional development programmes.
With expertise in areas such as Assessment for Learning, adaptive teaching, and instructional coaching, Susan has developed training programmes for teacher educators and school leaders. Her work is rooted in research, drawing on key studies such as What Makes Great Teaching?; The Science of Learning, and Principles of Instruction, to drive improvements in teaching and learning.
As an ELE, Susan is committed to supporting schools in embedding research-informed practices, ensuring that engagement with the latest evidence is a fundamental part of professional development and school improvement.
