ELE, Deputy Headteacher at the King John School and Staff and Leadership Development
Nic has 19 years of experience in education as a Geography teacher, middle leader, and senior leader. As Deputy Headteacher at The King John School, she is committed to improving educational outcomes through evidence-informed practice, professional development, and inclusive leadership. She believes that education has the power to transform life chances and that sustainable improvement is achieved when schools develop the knowledge, skills, and capacity of their people.
Her leadership experience spans teaching and learning, curriculum development, quality assurance, pastoral leadership, and whole-school improvement. Throughout her career, Nic has focused on translating educational research into practical approaches that strengthen teaching, develop leadership expertise, and improve outcomes for students. She has led the implementation of an evidence-informed professional development model that combines high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) with robust quality assurance, enabling teachers and leaders at all levels to refine their practice and maximise their impact.
A key principle of Nic’s work is that sustainable school improvement depends upon developing leadership capacity and competency across an organisation. She believes that when leaders are equipped to make informed decisions, evaluate impact, and drive improvement within their areas of responsibility, schools become more resilient, adaptive, and effective. This creates the conditions for lasting improvement that extends beyond individual leaders and directly benefits students through consistently high-quality teaching, curriculum provision, and pastoral support.
Inclusion and equity are central to her approach. As a leader with a disability, Nic is passionate about ensuring that all learners can access a high-quality education. She advocates for understanding the learner rather than the label, with effective classroom practice and adaptive teaching serving as the foundation for success, particularly for disadvantaged students and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Nic is also committed to system leadership and collaborative improvement. Through partnerships with colleagues across Zenith Multi Academy Trust, teacher training providers, and the Education Endowment Foundation, she has supported curriculum enhancement, pedagogical innovation, and leadership development.
As an Evidence Lead in Education, Nic is passionate about helping schools engage critically with research, implement evidence effectively, and build cultures of professional learning. She believes that by developing confident teachers, skilled leaders, and evidence-informed organisations, schools can secure sustainable improvement and, most importantly, improve the life chances of young people.
