ELE, Deputy Headteacher at Castledon School, a specialist SEND provision within Zenith Academy Trust

Janie is Deputy Headteacher at Castledon School, a specialist SEND provision within Zenith Multi-Academy Trust, where she leads on Quality of Education and Personal Development. She currently works with pupils across MLD and SLD pathways and has experience supporting a wide range of complex needs. Her background spans mainstream secondary and all-through SEND provision (ages 5 – 19), giving her a broad perspective on inclusive practice.

Much of Janie’s work is focused on taking evidence and making it meaningful in the classroom. She has led curriculum development using frameworks such as the Engagement Model, Early Development Framework and EEF guidance, ensuring learning is inclusive, ambitious and relevant. She is particularly interested in how research is implemented in real settings, and regularly designs and delivers CPD to support staff to embed this in everyday practice.

Janie is passionate about bridging the gap between research and practice, particularly in SEND. Alongside her school role, she works across settings and has shared practice more widely, including presenting at the Eastern Education Show. As an Evidence Lead in Education, she is keen to support schools in using evidence thoughtfully to create sustainable improvements for both staff and pupils.
