𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗥𝗘𝗖 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵!!

Our collaborative research with educators, leaders and academics over the last 6 years has given us the opportunity to reflect on what really matters for effective professional development:

• It needs to go beyond building knowledge
• It needs to be sustained and include tailored wrap around support
• Relationships really matter
• Reflection is essential
• The skills of noticing, analysing and refining how we interact with children is the key
• Co-construction is vital. We are learning from each other all the time
• We have learnt that we need to direct our attention to the children who need the greatest level of support

Our day to day work at Sheringham Nursery School and our 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 offers us insight, continual opportunities for learning and a unique perspective on the realities of working in early childhood education and care.

Responsive, socially meaningful back-and-forth conversations between early years educators and young children are the cornerstone of educational quality. Let’s build brains and lay the foundations for children’s wellbeing, learning and life chances. What happens early matters for a lifetime!
