We are in the process of planning our training programmes for 2021 – 22. As always, we will cover a range of topics, with a view to supporting school leaders to use the research evidence, to address the challenges they are facing.
Next year, our training programmes will include a blend of face to sessions and online sessions, with gap tasks to complete in between the sessions:
- Session 1 – whole day face to face session, at Durrington Research School.
- Session 2 – two hour, online module
- Session 3 – two hour, online module
- Session 4 – two hour, online module
- Session 5 – whole day face to face session, at Durrington Research School.
To help you find out more about the programmes, we will be offering some FREE taster sessions this term. Each of these taster sessions will:
- Outline the structure and theory of change for the programme;
- Explore the issues the programme will be looking to address;
- Look at some of the evidence and approaches that will be explored throughout the programme.
The details of the programmes are outlined below, as well as information about how to book a place on the taster sessions. These taster sessions will all be online:
Tackling Educational Disadvantage
Led by Shaun Allison& March Rowland
This programme will look at the issues associated with educational disadvantage and help school leaders identify the specific challenges faced by their pupils. We will then explore how the research evidence can be used to produce a high impact Pupil Premium strategy, aimed at closing the attainment gap.
Target audience: Pupil Premium Leads.
Training & Retaining Great Teachers
Led by Shaun Allison& Chris Runeckles
This programme looks at the evidence around teacher development and how this can be used to implement a cohesive and effective CPD strategy across a schools.
Target audience: CPD Leads.
Metacognition & Self-Regulation
Led by Chris Runeckles& James Crane
This programme will explore the research evidence around metacognition and how this can be mobilised in schools, to help our pupils to become better at self-regulating their learning.
Target audience: Leaders with responsibility for teaching and learning.
Understanding Cognitive Science
Led by James Crane& Ben Crockett
This programmes will explore the research evidence around cognitive science and how this helps us to understand how pupils learn. We will then look at how this can be used to shape an evidence-informed approach to teaching.
Target audience: Leaders with responsibility for teaching and learning and or CPD leads.
Improving KS2/3 Maths
Led by Deb Friis
This programme will explore all eight recommendations from the EEF Guidance report for KS2/3 Mathematics and look at how they can be implemented in the classroom.
Target audience: Maths Subject Leaders.
Improving Behaviour & Attendance
Led by Chris Woodcock& Tara McVey
This programme will look at the research evidence around improving behaviour and attendance in schools, and how this can be used to address the challenges that this presents to schools.
Target audience: Leaders with responsibility for behaviour & attendance.
Secondary Literacy
Led by Fran Haynes& Andy Tharby
This programme will explore the recommendations from the EEF secondary Literacy Guidance Reports and how they can be successfully implemented across a school.
Target audience: Leaders with responsibility for literacy in secondary schools.
Primary Literacy
Led by Toria Bono& Kim Brown
This programme will explore the recommendations from the EEF primary Literacy Guidance Reports and how they can be successfully implemented across a school.
Target audience: Leaders with responsibility for literacy in primary schools.
Primary Curriculum
Led by Jez Himsworth
This training programme will explore how what we know from the research evidence about how we learn, can be used to shape the primary curriculum.
Target audience: Primary Leaders with responsibility for teaching and learning and or curriculum.
Secondary Curriculum
Led by Fran Haynes& Ben Crockett
This training programme will explore how what we know from the research evidence about how we learn, can be used to shape the secondary curriculum.
Target audience: Secondary Leaders with responsibility for teaching and learning and or curriculum.
SEND in Mainstream School
Led by Kate Blight& Helen Pinney
This training programme will explore the recommendations from the ‘SEND in Mainstream Schools’ EEF Guidance Report. It will then look at how this can be used to maximise support for SEND pupils in primary and secondary schools.
Target audience: Primary & Secondary SENDCO.

If you are a West Sussex school, you will get a significant discount on the price of the programme, if you attend these taster sessions (the normal price for one person to attend one of these programmes is £345).
