This programme is offered through the EEFective Kent Project (EKP), a collaboration between Kent County Council and the EEF. Through the project, the cost of this programme has been subsidised as part of their dedication to support the implementation of evidence-based approaches and interventions in Kent.

Overview

A programme supporting teachers and school leaders to understand and support students’ cognitive, social and emotional learning behaviours.

The Effective Learning Behaviours deepens participants knowledge and understanding of the evidence base in five key areas:

- Behaviour
- Metacognition
- SEND in Mainstream Schools
- Social and Emotional Learning
- Working with Parents

A learning behaviour is any behaviour that supports learning, such as paying attention or persevering with a tricky task. It is the countless little things, done well, that characterise‘good’ behaviour and effective learning. Too often, behaviour is narrowly conceived as how to manage misbehaviour. The very notion of‘learning behaviours’ reflects the more complex reality of how behaviour manifests itself and what we can do about it.

What’s the purpose of the programme?

This programme ensures that senior leaders understand the complexity and inter-relatedness of the evidence underpinning effective learning behaviours. They are then able to apply this to their own contexts and develop a plan for successful implementation.

The programme will compromise an introductory, pre-recorded remote module, followed by three face-to-face days at Kent Associate Research School.

One-to-one coaching with Evidence Leads in Education (ELEs)

Participants will:

- Dive deep into the best evidence available around learning behaviours

- Explore their school culture and practices

- Explore real life case studies, supporting tools and share practical advice and good practice

- Be provided with guidance on effective implementation and opportunities to plan for positive and sustained change

Who is the programme for?

Senior leaders, Heads of Department and Key Stage Leaders working in all school phases.

Attendees will need a deep understanding of their organisation and the authority to afford change within it. Delegates need to fully commit to the programme. It is vital that delegates are given the necessary time, space and technology to attend all sessions, complete gap tasks between sessions, and engage in programme evaluation.
