The aim of the network is provide the time and space for Pupil Premium Leads and school leaders to develop their approach to tackling the disadvantage gap, and to network with other leaders in Devon and Cornwall.

As in the previous iteration of the network, we aim to facilitate the AM sessions but leave the PM slots free for networking and getting on with reviewing and planning your strategy. While the description below outlines the network content, we are particularly keen to ensure the sessions are responsive to your needs, so please let us know if there are aspects of the evidence you’d like to add to the agenda.

Clean Shot 2024 05 07 at 09 59 53

Day 1: 10th June

With Marc Rowland, we’ll explore the drivers of the disadvantage gap, including social isolation, community and school narratives, access and barriers to the curriculum, systems and attitudes, misconceptions, and quality of education – and how we use data and communication to understand and explore these drivers

Gap task: gather data to identify pupil needs

Day 2: 8th July

With Tom Colquhoun, we’ll focus on quality of education – inclusivity, curriculum, pedagogy (and what the evidence says), school behaviours, relationships, pastoral systems, and PD – and the role these play in driving the status quo and where we might need to intervene for change

Gap task: understand what’s already going on in relation to pupil needs – what does current practice look like? What systems, structures and school behaviours play a role in driving or tackling disadvantage?

Day 3: 4th Oct

We’ll focus on targeted interventions, parental support, and pastoral support – what information is shared? Is it actionable? Are current systems effective in addressing needs?

Gap task: reviewing interventions and drafting your PP strategy statement

Day 4: 6th December

Building a sustainable approach to tackling disadvantage, and the role of monitoring and evaluation.

Reviewing your approaches and finalising your Pupil Premium strategy.
