Research School Network: Derby Opportunity Area: 2019 2020 Programme Offers Free Places on Research School Programmes for Selected Derby Schools

We are proud to share the variety of opportunities to Derby schools next year as funded by the Opportunity Area. All programmes offer:

- 3 face to face training days 

- 2 half day coaching sessions as follow on to embed learning and support implementation 

- half day network event 

The purpose of the programmes is to support schools in developing threads explored in our Leading Learning and Pupil Premium programmes in 2018 – 2019. This is to ensure schools are given sustained help in implementing core ideas. 

If you have not already participated in the Leading Learning and Pupil Premium programmes, please get in touch as we have a small number of places available for September. 

The programme opportunities for 2019 – 2020 are as follows: 

Teaching for Memory – In School Lead (Derby Research School)
Delve into the evidence around the science of learning to help support long term retention by teaching in ways our memory processes and stores new learning. Build and connect learning through schema building and tweak curriculum plans for deliberate spaced practice to ​‘interrupt the forgetting.’ This programme offers training for a member of staff to become an in-school lead, delivering in-school bepoke training. Schools will receive: 3 full days training, 2x half day coaching visits and a follow up network event.

Metacognition– In School Lead (Derby Research School)
Our most effective learners are metacognitive
in how they plan, monitor and evaluate their learning – enable all learners in your class to develop the same skills and accelerate learning. By ensuring a consistent whole school approach to metacognition, learners can make up to 7 months additional progress. This programme offers training for a member of staff to become an in-school lead, delivering in-school bepoke training. Schools will receive: 3 full days training, 2x half day coaching visits and a follow up network event.

Evidence Champion– In School Lead (Derby Research School)
How can we support our staff to become more evidence engaged? How can we ensure we learn from and embed the lessons from research so that we can ensure our teaching is as impactful as possible? This 3 day training allows an in-school evidence champion to develop core skills and support school leaders in developing an evidence-engaged culture from within. Schools will receive an audit tool, step by step guide of practical strategies and 3 days of training with follow on coaching visits.
