Opportunity Area: Tom Sherrington: An Introduction to Teaching Walkthrus as a Tool for Implementing Evidence-Informed CPD

A structured tool for drilling down into those core threads of Quality First Teaching

Tom Sherrington is an experienced former Headteacher and teacher working in schools for over 30 years. He leads teacherhead consultancy and regularly contributes to conferences and CPD sessions locally and nationally.

His well renowned books: Teach Now!, The joy of Teaching Science, The Learning Rainforest: Great Teaching in a Real Classroom, Walkthrus, and Rosenshines Principles in Action are regularly used as an evidence base for quality first teaching.

The WalkThrus materials have been designed to provide a central set of connected resources to build your institution’s professional development. They are designed for use in primary and secondary schools, in further education colleges and a range of other educational settings.

At the heart of WalkThrus is a selection of evidence-informed teaching strategies curated in six series.

Behaviour and Relationships
Curriculum Planning
Explaining and Modelling
Questioning and Feedback
Practice and Retrieval: Building secure long-term memory and fluency
Mode B Teaching: Delivering a range of learning experiences to deepen and extend learning.

This workshop with Tom Sherrington will offer the opportunity to further explore these strategies alongside the EFF Planning Guide on how we can ensure quality first teaching.
