More info

Grounded in the latest research and practical strategies, this asynchronous course explores how metacognition underpins effective learning, motivation, and independence.

This course is delivered asynchronously, allowing you to engage with it at your own pace. Each session includes:

> Video training with expert input and pause points for reflection
> A comprehensive workbook to guide learning and action planning
> Suggested readings and gap tasks to apply learning in your own context

The course is structured around three core sessions:

> Understanding Metacognition and Self-Regulation– Explore what metacognition is (and what it isn’t), the relationship between cognition, metacognition and motivation, and why explicit teaching of strategies matters.
> Memory in Mind: Modelling, Scaffolding and Cognitive Load– Learn how to optimise cognitive load, design effective scaffolding, and use teacher modelling and worked examples to promote independent thinking.
> Metacognitive Talk, Independent Learning and Implementation– Develop strategies for encouraging classroom dialogue, planning metacognitive routines, evaluating impact, and embedding practice school-wide.
