Podcasts are a great way to keep up to date with the world of education, and a number of podcasts have evidence as their focus or regularly discuss the use of evidence. Here are 5 of our favourites, along with episodes to use as an entry point.

Evidence Based Education

The mission of Evidence Based Education to improve learner outcomes, worldwide and for good”. Their occasional podcast helps to do this by sharing fascinating insights into research and education. The trialled and tested’ series interviews those behind educational research such as Dylan Wiliam, co-developer of Embedding Formative Assessment, a professional development programme which supports teachers to use real-time knowledge of their pupils’ strengths and weaknesses to adapt their practice.’ Listen here.

Naylor’s Natter
Phil Naylor has done for educational podcasts in Blackpool what Alan Partridge did for local radio in Norfolk. He has built an impressive collection of interviews with some amazing guests, from Ofsted’s Daniel Muijs to Mark Enser. His most recent podcast is with Iggy Rhodes, who speaks about the EEF’s recent Improving Behaviour in Schools guidance report.

Mr Barton Maths

While there are a number of his podcasts have a maths focus, this is a blog which all teachers can listen to. In Mr Barton’s own words:

On the Mr Barton Maths Podcast I interview guests from the world of education who interest and inspire me. They may be fellow teachers, bloggers, thinkers, or people of influence. As well as discussing my guest's particular areas of interest, I always like to dig deep into their lesson planning process, and ask them to describe lessons that did not go so well and what they learned from the experience. Be warned, these interviews are intended to be long and in-depth, and are probably best digested across a few journeys to work or a few laps of the park with your dog.

This interview with Professor Becky Allen is wide ranging and one of our favourites.

Rosendale Research School

Our colleagues at Rosendale have been releasing short podcasts for some time. Each podcast has a particular focus and they have a number where they talk to school teachers and leaders about what is going on in their schools. An interesting place to start is this discussion between Kate Atkins and Mark Rowland on the effective use of Pupil Premium.

TES – The Education Podcast

The TES podcast has a number of different episodes (330 and counting), many of which take in a discussion on current educational topics. Our favourites are those which delve deeper into topics, such as the podcast from April 30th: Why are boys falling behind? In this episode, Matt Pinkett and Mark Roberts talk to Jamie Thom about masculinity in schools.
