Helen Wright

I currently work as part of the Maths Team at Aspire Educational Trust, developing maths across 11 primary schools in Cheshire and Manchester. I am based at three-form entry school in inner city Manchester, where I am also the Maths Lead. I am both an ELE and an SLE in maths.

I have worked as a primary teacher for 25 years, and for most of that time have been based in Wilbraham Primary School in Manchester. I have taught classes in both Key Stages One and Two, and have taught across the age range. This year, I am broadening my horizons and dipping my toes into EYFS; teaching part time in both a nursery and a reception class.

Maths in the primary setting is my passion. I have been Maths Lead for many years, working in a variety of ways to both develop a cohesive curriculum and develop colleagues’ subject knowledge and pedagogy. I became a Maths Specialist teacher in 2013 and I completed my MSc in STEM Education in 2016. During this time, I developed an interest in evidence-based practice; focussing in particular on evidence around developing the multiplication curriculum. Becoming an ELE and SLE has allowed me to further develop this interest and support colleagues both in my own school and others to improve outcomes for all children.

Outside of work, I am part of the core team who run a local junior Parkrun. I am also a keen (but relatively slow!) member of a running club and take part in Parkrun myself. My other passions include all things wool and fabric. I am currently developing my skills on a sewing machine and I like to relax with a cup of tea and crochet project.
